A 2-pack of our purpose-built 5/16 in maple tapping bits: one to use and one for the spare drill, a sugaring partner, or next season. Each bit is made from M2 high-speed steel, etched NORTH STAR 5/16 M2, and sized for standard 5/16 in maple spouts, including our stainless steel taps.
- Sharp angled tip: bites into maple and draws the bit in with light pressure.
- Razor-sharp edges: sharp edges along the flutes cut cleanly with less tearing, leaving a smooth taphole for a snug spout fit.
- High-capacity flutes: deep spiral channels move wood chips quickly up and out of the taphole as you drill.
- Two depth marks: marks at 1.5 in and 2 in help you see how deep you've drilled and avoid going too far.
- Short flute length: a compact cutting section sized for shallow tapholes.
- Premium M2 HSS: tough, wear-resistant steel holds its hardness under heat and keeps its edge through repeated use.
- Three-flat shank: flat faces help the drill chuck hold the bit securely and resist slipping under load.
How to use: Drill into the tree at a slight upward angle, using the depth marks as your guide (about 1.5 to 2 in deep). Back the bit out to clear chips, then tap in your 5/16 in spout.
Each bit arrives in its own protective plastic tube. Imported.
