Clear, clean maple syrup starts with a good filter. The 8 quart Orlon cone filter from North Star Maple Supply is sewn from dense 16 oz Orlon polyester felt, the same style of filter maple producers rely on to remove niter (sugar sand) that makes syrup cloudy and gritty.

How to use

Dampen the cone with hot water and press out the extra. Hang it over a clean pot and pour syrup in hot, at 180°F or hotter. Let gravity do the work and never squeeze the cone. Rinse in hot water only, never soap, and dry completely before storing.
